Movie Name—The Bhootnii
IMDb Ratings—6.9/10
Star Rating – ⭐⭐⭐
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, Nikunj Lotia (BeYouNick), and Aasif Khan
Where to Watch—
Plot-
The Bhootnii is set at St. Vincent’s College, where a haunted tree referred to as the “Virgin Tree” has been cursed. The ghost of Mohabbat, a scorned lover, awakens each Valentine’s Day and haunts students, particularly young lovers.
When things turn pear-shaped around campus, the college hires a ghostbuster named Baba (played by Sanjay Dutt) to deal with the drama.Shantanu (Sunny Singh), a student, becomes infatuated with Ananya (Palak Tiwari), unwittingly bringing them both into the fury of the ghost.
As the narrative progresses, Baba and the gang collaborate to learn about Mohabbat’s sad history and how to put an end to her haunting.
The movie blends horror, romance, action, and comedy as it hurtles toward a strange and out-of-control climax.
Strong Points—
Sanjay Dutt’s Cameo: His presence as Baba provides some energy and weirdness to the movie. He adds experience and charisma, although the material he is surrounded by is poor.
Light Humor: There are some one-liners and situations that are humorous and provide light entertainment, especially in the first half.
Vibrant Visuals: The movie employs bright colors and flashy visuals that make it look like a comic book, which may attract a younger crowd.
Weak Points—
No Logic at All: There is no sense to the plot, which is full of arbitrary turns and unpredictable behavior from the characters. Things occur haphazardly, and the film frequently contradicts itself.
No Real Horror: In spite of the ghost angle, the movie doesn’t manage to scare. The horror sequences are either too farcical or clumsily made, with more racket than real tension.
Weak Acting: For everyone except Sanjay Dutt, most of the acting appears forced or artificial. Mouni Roy’s ghost character appears reused, just like her previous TV roles. Emotional moments are flat, and the lead pair’s chemistry is weak.
Overused & Predictable Plot: The plot is a combination of cliches—angry ghost, sad history, brave exorcist—yet nothing fresh to contribute. You can predict what happens next from a mile away.
Conclusion-
The Bhootnii attempts to combine horror, comedy, and romance but winds up being a jumbled mess with hardly any return on the efforts.
There’s hardly any horror, there’s no logic, and much of the acting is superficial. Some of the humor and Sanjay Dutt’s presence on screen are the only small plus points.
If you’re in search of a horror-comedy, this one may prove disappointing.
