Bollywood time travel movies list
Action replayy (2010)
This 2010’s time travel is one of the most flopped movies by Akshay Kumar .
The star cast of the film includes Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Neha Dhupia, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Ranvijay Singh. Even though having a huge star cast, director Vipul sharma couldn’t make it more remarkable.
The story is about a boy who fed up with his parent’s dull marriage life. And he decides to travel to the past in his parent’s adulthood to polish their love life.
In spite of having a budget of 60 crores, the film only able to collect merely 48 crores. However there is no doubt, this flop movie gave us melodious songs like ‘O Bekhabar’ by Shreya Ghoshal.
Love Story 2050 (2008)
Priyanka Chopra starrer this film was a disaster. It is also a film which earned below its budget. (budget was 60 crores and box office collection 18.5 crores).
Director Harry Baweja cast his son, Harman Baweja as the male lead. And beside him, Boman Irani and Archana Puran Singh also played key roles in the movie.
Story is about two love birds Karan and Sana, who decide to marry. Unfortunately, Sana dies in an accident. And for this reason, Karan travel to the future (in 2050) to meet Sana.
As sana always wanted to go in 2050.
As you can see that the storyline has nothing special in it to attract the audience.
By the way do you know that this movie was appreciated for its excellent visual effects?
Fun2shh (2003)
Imtiaz Punjabi direct this movie. And it is an adventures heist movie along with a “tadka” of time travel. The whole adventure is about stealing a crown.
The film starred many actors like; Gulshan Grover, Paresh Rawal, Farida Jalal, Anuj Sawhney, Mohammed Iqbal Khan, and Raima Sen.
The film didn’t make any sense to the audience which result in its massive failure.
Baar Baar Dekho (2016)
It is the debut film of the talented director, Nitya Mehra. This film is inspired by the American comedy movie Click .
Among all the big flops of Siddharth Malhotra, this film is a significant one. But yes, doing this film is a brave choice for Siddharth.
This film is about a math genius boy, Jai (Siddharth) whose childhood love is Diya (Katrina Kaif). But the main problem in his life was about balancing his love life and his career.
One day, Jai and Diya got into trouble over their marriage plans. But on the very next day, Jai travels to the future and see the upcoming troubles in his life.
He even realised that all of the troubles will take place in his future just because of his ignorance to his personal life and family.
The character, Jai travels in various years like 2035, 2047, and sometimes 2023. As a result, the film made the audience super puzzled as the whole storyline is so confusing.
However this movie have amazing sound tracks for example;
- ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’
- ‘Sau Aasmaan’
- ‘Dariya’
- ‘Nachde Ne Saare’
- ‘Teri Khair Mangdi’
- ‘Kala Chashma’
Fortunately, the film managed to collect approximately the budget amount of it.
Shree (2013)
Rajesh Bachchani directed this not-so-famous time travel movie was not a very high-budget film. The film got a moderate success.
The story of the film is based on an accountant, Shreedhar whose employer uses him in a scientific experiment. And this causes many problems in his life.
This movie have Hussain Kuwajerwala, Paresh Ganatra, and Anjali Patil.
So, this is the end of the list of Bollywood time travel movies (only the flop ones).
Now it’s time to get to know the reasons behind these films’ massive failures and the answer of should Bollywood make time travel movies or not?
Why time travel movies in failed in Bollywood
Reasons why I included these Bollywood time travel movies in the list
- Firstly, every time travel movie need a high budget production to focus on the visual or special effects. And most directors do not take risk of making a high-budget film that has a very lower probability of being hit.
- Secondly the concept of time travel is a very new thing to Bollywood, not only just excellent visual effects can make a film hit, but also a firm and the good storyline is also needed.
- Since, very few directors show interest in this time travel genre, that’s why it results in lack of knowledge to make a sound time travel movie. And it’s natural that, if a different concept presented improperly, it will definitely going to confuse the audience.
So, if any director wants to make any time travel movies they should focus on the above things.
So according to me, these are the strong reasons behind the failure of every flopped time travel movie. What do you think about these movies? Do you think that time travel movies has any possibility to growth in the future?
